The Voiceless Wonder

If you hear a strangled whisper behind you, followed by a hoarse croak and hacking cough, never fear, it's not the grim reaper come for you early. It's just me trying to say hello. I. Have. Lost. My. Voice. It's gone. The first two days it was vaguely amusing. Kind of a reverse party trick. Five days in, it's wearing a little thin. Ah well, at least here, no one can hear me squeak.

News on the home front, we're putting Rosa to sleep in Mari's old cot, in (and this is the clincher) Mari's room. Or Mari and Rosa's room as we now hope to call it. Picture the scenario the first night, after Rosa has been sharing a room with us for 9 months. I drag James to our bedroom; "You HAVE to come look a this!". (Stay with me here.) I stop dramatically in the darkened doorway. "Ready?" Dramatic pause... Click! I turn on the light! Our bedroom light is on! At night. For the first time in nine months. Now of course, my heart still skips a beat whenever I walk past the lighted bedroom at night. "Oh, god! We've left the light on! How is she still asleep?! No. Wait. Look! I can walk into my own bedroom at night. I can even.... oh I'm giddy with excitement... read a book in bed..." Oh, it's too much.

Winter, we kind of like you too...

We packed our bags and headed up to the snow with a group of our very good friends on the weekend. I use the term "snow" loosely. We found a few patches though, and Mari discovered the joys of tobogganing. James even managed to get in a few hours skiing. Our (nearly) yearly ski trip is always a highlight of the year, full of laughter, good company, and the odd snowball up back of the head (sorry James).

O spring, I love you so

Mari through the ages.

Our (first) baby girl turns three on Thursday. Three! Can you believe it? We're so lucky to have her in our lives, our precious BIG girl. Here she is at 0, 1, 2 and 3.

Well. I've been a teensie bit snap-happy the past few days, so that's what you're gettin' folks.
Part of the way up Mt Alexander, soaking up some late afternoon sunshine.

Still sunning ourselves. Ahh... Ooh, pine needles!

Have I mentioned the lovely sunny weather? Lovely! And sunny!

I've been making some clothes for the girls lately, and Mari now looks like she's off to a business meeting whenever she leaves the house.

One word... aww.

And again. Rosa LOVES to play peepo!

Made the dress too. Found an easy-peasy pattern for basic pants, dress, skirt, jacket and have been sweatshopping away. When we're not out in the LOVELY SUNNY weather!

Nice girls don't...

Nice girls don't:
a) Demand to wear their undies over their pants, then proceed to spend the day in the 'nicky-noo-na' from the waist down in protest.
b) Burp loudly while sitting on your chest, then drool milky vomit dangerously close to your mouth.
c) Open the condensed milk for the sole purpose of eating it out of the tin with a spoon because there are no chocolate biscuits left in the house.

Or maybe they do.

Anyway, each of us has done one of these things today. Go on, guess.

PS: Mari is currently listening to a jingly kids version of "Morningtown Ride" originally by the Seekers?, Peter, Paul and Mary? (Correct me if I'm wrong). She just came up to me and announced with joy "Mummy, Rock and Roll!". No, my child, wrong in sooo many ways.

Looxury!

I like a good milestone, (that's milestone, not millstone) and we had one delivered to our door yesterday. Well, two. Mari's bed arrived in flat-packed glory, and I managed to construct it without swearing. A milestone in itself. Anyway. Mari has a BIG bed. We couldn't be more excited. And... with impeccable timing another box arrived, holding a set of beautiful crisp white egyptian cotton sheets (for us). I'm almost ashamed to say that these sheets cost nearly as much as my first car. Gosh they're nice though. It's going to be like like sleeping in a five star hotel every night. Now if only I could do something about the room service...
